When The Kidlets Are Sick

Alpine Village Family October 7th, 2007

Isn’t it just like a mom to feel bad for her kids when they suffer in any way?  From the heartache of not being invited to a birthday party, to the pain of skinning their knee, I always wish I could take the pain for them and somehow spare them.

Given that then, it really must seem odd to my 6 and 8 year olds that, when they are sick and hacking and sneezing I tend to not get too close too long.  Don’t get me wrong, I do hug them a lot and there are lots of late night cuddles BUT, I do find myself thinking that a quick hug might be better than a lingering one - lest I catch that horrible cold/cough/fever that they are struggling through.   Makes me wonder if I’m the only mom who has that thought…

Have you ever just gone for a drive?

Alpine Village Family October 7th, 2007

One of my memories of childhood is going for drives with my parents. No particular destination in mind, just a drive down roads we’d never gone down before. I guess now it would be a silly thing to do given global warming and the price of gas, but back then it was a relaxing thing to do.

I used to love picking out houses I liked and making mental notes of what I’d want to have one day. I’m still quite fond of big farm houses with big porches and big gardens and Mailboxes look like the house too. One day I hope to have one - maybe not too far into the country though since I’ve gotten so used to being a city girl with stores so close by ;)

Isn’t it funny what things shape our lives and our likes and dislikes? Makes me wonder what simple things I’m doing that are shaping Matt and Jenn…

A Thanksgiving Trip To The Beach

Alpine Village Family October 7th, 2007

The weather today was incredible.  I can hardly believe that it’s October 7th when it feels like it’s 30 degrees C outside!  Too hot really because it’s so humid too.

I’ve decided that tomorrow I’m going to take the kids to the beach.  I don’t know that they’ll swim, but I think we’ll have some fun hunting for rocks and shells and maybe make a sand castle or two too.  If we’re really lucky, the snack bar on the beach will still be open and we can have some yummy treats too :)  Then home for turkey at 5pm.  Sounds like a day worth giving thanks for to me ;)

The Anniversary Gift

Alpine Village Family September 28th, 2007

Hubby and I celebrated out 11th wedding anniversary on the 7th of this month. We don’t normally get each other gifts other than a card and maybe a dinner out. I really don’t need more than that, for the record, I’m no material girl ;)

This year though he surprised me with a digital camera with two extra memory cards and a case too. It was sweet of him :) He said that he really wanted me to have a nice camera and that he felt bad for all the times I had complained that I would have taken a photo of “whatever…”, if only I had a good camera.

When I think about it, I realize that a camera is a very appropriate gift for wedding, anniversaries and the birth of children - capture the memories ahead :D …gosh, I think I’m having a Hallmark moment LOL.

Family Theme Days?

Alpine Village Family September 28th, 2007

I’ve wondered about this for a while now.  Some families have Taco Tuesday or Pizza Day Friday and I’m thinking it sounds like a fun idea :)  I was just reading online that Jennifer Garner has homemade bread Saturday and I really like that idea too :)

It gets me wondering whether I’m the only mom out there who hasn’t created theme days for her family… have YOU done that??  I’d love to hear what other families do as a weekly tradition.

AFV - The Giggles!!

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

Well, it’s a tradition of sorts at our house:  America’s Funniest Home Videos every Sunday night :)  The kids are still under the weather, in fact Jen is a bit of a cuddly/whiny/mess, more so than Matt, and HE has the fever - go figure ;)

Anyway, it’s a fun time after dinner and bath-time when we all crowd onto the couch and have a giggle-fest.  It’s a nice way to start our week!  Any traditions at your house?

Grabbing My Day By The…

Alpine Village Family September 22nd, 2007

…you know whats ;)

I have days where I am super-productive and days where I wonder how I could have sat so long and yet done so little.  I do have a lot to do as a paid blogger (yes, I get paid for some of these posts;  no, not this one ;) ) so I have to manage my time well.

You see, my goal is to make a bunch of money through Adsense but in the meantime I have to make money.  So, it seems to me that I have to set aside say, 3 or 4 hours each day for the paid blogging and then spend the rest setting up my websites and writing articles for them (of course the articles will have Adsense ads. in them ;).

I’ll try that next week and see how it goes.  Maybe from 10am to 1:30 will be paid posts and then 1:30 to 3:pm can be for the future Adsense stuff.  Sounds like a plan.  Let’s see how it goes :)

Blog Traffic ‘n Such

Alpine Village Family September 22nd, 2007

Each day I ponder my bottom line (yeah, my bottom too but that’s a whole other issue ;) ). It seems to me that no matter what you do in online business, your site or blog’s traffic is the key. Lots of traffic means lots of Google ads get clicked on or lots of product sold etc.

Article Marketing is a great way to increase traffic and one that costs either nothing or very little. Looks like I need to do some market research and see what things my readers want to read about. Then I’ll post some articles in directories and see it that helps. I’ve heard good things :) I’ll keep you posted on how I fare with it. …fingers crossed!

Pop-Ups… Grrr…

Alpine Village Family September 22nd, 2007

Don’t we all hate them? I mean it seems we all have a popup blocker to prevent pop-ups from showing at those nasty sites that still use them right? So why is it then that every now and then I happen upon a site that requires them??

Have you see that? There’ll be a message at the top of my screen that says “such and such site requires pop ups. Please enable” or something to that effect. I always shake my head. Was there no other way?? Hmm… maybe I’m just irritable  LOL
