Year 3 of no air in the van is too much

Alpine Village Family July 30th, 2008

I really miss being able to cool off in the van. At first i thought that it would be no big deal. I could wait until the Fall to get it fixed. Then that turned into three years… and now I’m really missing my air conditioning :( . I know, I’m being a spoiled baby but it’s sooooo hot in there. When I go out now, I just sweat and sweat and the kids get sooo hot too -sometimes they feel sick. So, before next Summer, I’m buying a new van. I will not do a 4th year of a hot, hot van.

If only I had money.

Does it ever drive you crazy that you want to buy things for people who need them but you just can not afford it? I have a lot of issues with that. My mom is blind and has MS and there are so many things I’d like to buy for her to make her life so much easier.

First off, I’d love to buy her one of those walk in tubs. Most of all though I’d like to buy her a new house that is all one level and big and open enough that she can get to every bit of her house… Dare to dream I guess…

Should I Watch The Movie With the Kids?

Alpine Village Family October 27th, 2007

Last weekend I watched a movie with the kids on Friday and Saturday nights. I really enjoyed both movies and was looking forward to them for a few days too (Evan Almighty and Transformers).

Tonight though they are watching Meet The Robinsons and I really didn’t personally want to see it. The kids were excited to see it though so it was a great choice for movie night as it’s not often they BOTH agree so easily.

Question is, do you think it’s okay that I’m not watching it with them? They are both snug as bugs watching while I’m in my office working away. When the movie is over we’ll have story time together and then bedtime. I feel pretty good about it because I have soooo much work to do, and the kids seem fine with it too. Guess it’s just another twinge of Parent-Guilt ;)

Evan Almighty

Alpine Village Family October 24th, 2007

It was a good movie. We rented it over the weekend. Not often is there a good, quality, funny G rated movie for all of us to enjoy, but this one was :). I liked that they put in a good plug for God and prayer too - a nice discussion starter. I could have done without the discussion of the jack-ass though. Remember, Evan has to build an ark so all kinds of animals come by his house ;). It was pretty minor though and Jenny and Matt DID enjoy learning that there is an animal with “the A word” in it’s name LOL :D.

Matt Won’t Wear His Scull T-Shirt

Alpine Village Family October 24th, 2007

I bought Matt a cool T-shirt when I was at Target last time. It was only $6 if I remember right but it’s really cool - black with a camouflage skull on it. Not flashy - he hates flashy - but a tiny bit fun for Halloween.

Yesterday I grabbed it, took off the tags and laid it out for him to wear to school. He said “no thanks”. The polite angle is never good. I looked at him in frustration and asked why. He said they aren’t allowed at school. Odd, I thought. He’s such a stickler for details. I asked the secretary and now I think she may think I’m crazy LOL! Tonight Matt and I will read through the school dress code and look for mention of skulls ;). Here’s to hoping it wasn’t just a wasted purchase…

Where Is The Homework??

Alpine Village Family October 24th, 2007

Neither of my kids - ages 6 and 8, in grades 1 and 3 - are bringing home any homework. Seriously, not a single page from Matt my 8 year old. Yes we do test him on his spelling words on Friday mornings but that’s it folks! As for Jenn my 6 year old, we read books together at bedtime and that’s it for her. I can’t figure it out. I know that Matt is getting his work done at school, which is great but it leaves me not knowing how he is doing academically and that’s driving me crazy. Their teachers both say they are doing “great” and “fine” so I have to just drop the issue. I just hope that their report cards are great too :).

Laundry Blues

Alpine Village Family October 24th, 2007

I like to think I do a good job with the laundry. And I did think that until yesterday when Hubby declared that he didn’t have any socks or golf shirts so, from now on he’d be doing his own laundry.

My first reaction was to go fetch him 3 clean golf shirts and then to ask what on Earth he needed them for anyway - he wasn’t golfing! Then I was angry because laundry was the only household chore I do that he hadn’t criticized yet. Then I thought, oh well, it’ll make laundry day a lot easier for me ;). That’s where I’ve decided to leave it. I’ll not dwell on it anymore. Let him do his own laundry if he wants to ;). Have fun.

Good Bye Garden

Alpine Village Family October 15th, 2007

Well folks, I do love to garden and I’d say that’s it’s strongly a part of who I am but… yesterday my garden got ripped out.

I don’t mean that I got it ready for winter.  I mean that Hubby ripped out the rabbit fence, that he spent hours putting up, and pulled out some weeds to get it ready for - gasp  - grass seed!

No matter how much I love it, we are away too much during the summer and it never fails that, when we return, the garden looks horrible as most of the veggies have died from thirst :(.   I know I have to accept this change.  I’m just a little sad for now…

Sleep-Over Night :)

Alpine Village Family October 12th, 2007

I still remember being a little kid and loving sleepovers. I think that’s why I’m always all for having our friend’s little guy spend the night. He and Hubby go out for some guy-time and the kids get to enjoy having a little friend over :).

I get to have fun too with the kiddos. Is it just me or do other parents find themselves doing more fun stuff when other kids are over? I’ve been planning fun stuff to do with them. The standard stuff like getting out their toys like the RC airplanes - maybe at the park if it’s not too cold - and maybe some crafts too. Since Halloween is so close, maybe I’ll find some ready made crafts at the dollar store ;) I’d better get shopping.

Welcome Cold!!

Alpine Village Family October 12th, 2007

I’d have never believed it but the truth is, I’m happy to see the weather cooling off finally.  I think I’m just sick of my summer clothes :D.

Yesterday brought a very cold day here in Ontario after several days of very hot weather… the weather turned so fast that the teachers cut recess short because so many kids were too cold (parents hadn’t packed jackets because it had been sooooooo warm the days before).

Anyway, looks like this weekend will be filled with trying on the winter apparel, seeing what fits and buying more ;)  Luckily I love to shop :D
