Time Out For A Boo-Boo Kiss

Alpine Village Family October 28th, 2007

With Matt and Jenn being 8 and 6 now they are very understanding of my need to have work-time. As long as I explain ahead of time that Mommy needs to work for an hour, and then after that we will _____ together. I pick something that they’ll enjoy and they are fine with occupying themselves for that hour.

That is, unless someone slips or gets some kind of ouchie ;). Jenn will still inevitably come to me for a kiss or hug like she did just now. It really is pretty sweet and nice to know that I’m still the special Boo-Boo kisser ;).

What Is Your Favorite Gift To Receive?

Alpine Village Family October 28th, 2007

The closer we get to the holiday season, the more I think about gift giving ;) I find there are those of us who like expensive gifts and those who are more of the “it’s the thought that matters most” people. Which are you?

Does your ideal gift come from a jeweler in the form of gold jewelry? Does your enjoyment of the gift coincide with it’s price tag? Personally, I’m looking for the thought of it all. The price tag is irrelevant. I love a sappy card or a walk on the beach followed by a picnic (hopeless romantic?? yes, that’s me :) ). You?

Do You Play McDonalds’ Monopoly Game?

Alpine Village Family October 28th, 2007

You know the game I’m referring to right? The one where McDonalds puts game pieces on certain food and drink items and we get to collect them.

I have to admit I do get the game board and I do play along. I can’t NOT play when I do eat there fairly often (breakfast ;) ). “d always wonder if I had maybe gotten a winning piece but never knew because I wasn’t keeping track ;).

Anyway, I’ve never won by collecting the pieces, but I have won the occasional cheeseburger which was still cool, but man would I LOVE to win some big money… but then wouldn’t most of us love that LOL :D ?

I Love My New Etched Glass Ikea Desk

Alpine Village Family October 27th, 2007

Shopping today was even better than I thought it would be. First off, our husbands decided that they would watch the kids so we could shop alone - yay!! This is just sooo much faster and just plain easier to do. Secondly, Judy and I both found great stuff that we LOVE. She bought a bunch of their Pax line which is fantastic for storage. I wandered around the office furniture section for quite a while until I decided for certain what I wanted but fell in love with one of the Vika combinations.

Specifically, I decided on the glass desk top that has the word LOVE (written in several ways in several languages) etched all over it, curved white metal legs and a light pink desk chair :D. I also picked up some pink shelves and a white drawer unit. All in all, I am soooo happy with it and I love my new office area!

Should I Watch The Movie With the Kids?

Alpine Village Family October 27th, 2007

Last weekend I watched a movie with the kids on Friday and Saturday nights. I really enjoyed both movies and was looking forward to them for a few days too (Evan Almighty and Transformers).

Tonight though they are watching Meet The Robinsons and I really didn’t personally want to see it. The kids were excited to see it though so it was a great choice for movie night as it’s not often they BOTH agree so easily.

Question is, do you think it’s okay that I’m not watching it with them? They are both snug as bugs watching while I’m in my office working away. When the movie is over we’ll have story time together and then bedtime. I feel pretty good about it because I have soooo much work to do, and the kids seem fine with it too. Guess it’s just another twinge of Parent-Guilt ;)

Have Men Forgotten What REAL Breasts Look Like?

Alpine Village Family October 27th, 2007

I just have to vent this ladies! I get so frustrated at times with what seems like an unbeatable battle to be seen as pretty even though I’ve had kids and I’m no longer 26. Don’t get me wrong now, I do take care of myself, and I do think I look okay. But when I overheard the guys talking about a fairly young woman they know, and commenting that her breasts weren’t perky enough, I thought I’d smack them all.

The problem as I see it is that her natural breasts ARE great… BUT compared to those with implants, they aren’t as perky or full. It’s a losing battle. All over the media we see sexy women whose breasts have been augmented. Do I care that they did it? Nope. Do I care that that is what is being seen as “preferable” now? Well, yeah I do. Real is real and fake is fake if you know what I mean. Let’s compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges so to speak and cut us girls a break ;). We can’t all be Vegas showgirls you know. Sheesh!!

Someone Pranked Our Inflatable Halloween Ghost

Alpine Village Family October 26th, 2007

Two nights ago a group of people/kids(?) played a silly prank on us. We have 4 flower urns in front of the house and they moved 3 of them to the neighbor’s house ;). Nothing was broken and in the grand scheme of pranks, it was cute and it’s not like anyone got hurt.

Then today as I was getting the mail, I realized that our inflatable Halloween Ghost is leaning in a funny way. Nothing drastic, not like we need to quickly get him some term life insurance :). As I get closer though, I realize this time a prankster has put a beer bottle in his necktie in such a way that it looks like the ghost is drinking it ;). Touche, Prankster, and thanks for the giggle!

Buying My Ikea Desk Tomorrow

Alpine Village Family October 26th, 2007

I’m so excited! My friend Judy and I are taking the kiddos to Ikea tomorrow to get a desk set-up for me and a living room storage unit for her :D. …I know, it IS amazing how little things excite me ;)

I’m going to do my best to plan it all ahead so I know EXACTLY which pieces I’ll need for my office set up. Otherwise I’ll be hours humming and hawwing ;). Let’s see how I do.

We Bought Dane Cook Tickets For The Air Canada Center!!

Alpine Village Family October 26th, 2007

If you aren’t familiar with who Dane Cook is, he is an actor and also a comedian. If you do a search for him on YouTube, all kinds of clips come up and you can hear him for yourself. His humor is NOT for kids though - just a heads-up to make sure they are NOT within earshot while you listen.

That said, I’m so excited to see him! He is sooo funny I just know it will be some awesome laughter therapy :D. We got great seats - upper level, in the middle of the bowl but first row - we should be able to see him really well. I’m soooo excited!!

Does Aging Scare You?

Alpine Village Family October 24th, 2007

Maybe I’m naive but it doesn’t scare me. It probably should though given the cost of everything and the idea that I’ll not be able to work to pay for the things I’ll need anymore… sheesh, that is scary when I type it out.

I like to be proactive though and that means thinking about things carefully well before they are an issue for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking into places like San Francisco senior homes or anything - though retiring somewhere warm is a great idea. I just wonder if maybe a visit to a financial planner might be a good idea for peace of mind…
