Open Marriages on Oprah

Alpine Village Family September 25th, 2007

Did you happen to see Oprah today? Pretty interesting to say the least. Lots of talk about sex and, ahem, Erotica (aka “porn” for those who can call it as it is) - she even ended the show with a couple who discussed their open marriage. Being nosey like I am, I watched with interest ;)

In the case of the couple on her show, an open marriage for them means that either one of them is welcome to have a full-blown, in-love-with-someone-else relationship. So, the wife is now dating and sleeping with a man who was their friend for years - incidentally the “friend” she is dating and sleeping with is also in a life-relationship with someone else.

Her husband says it was a problem at the start but he agreed to it when he suggested it way back when - I guess he felt like he couldn’t go back on his promise to her. Now he says it’s fine with him and, though he has flirted a bit with other women, he isn’t dating anyone.

What really struck me was that his wife actually, after a night of board games with the group of friends, will go to bed with the family friend in the guest room of their home. I’m not sure about that one folks - I might be nodding “have a nice night honey” and loading the gun LOL!!

Tattoo Lovers Apply Here

Alpine Village Family September 25th, 2007

Well, not here on this blog exactly ;), but there is a site for tattoo personals for those who love tattoos and are looking for dates with similar preferences.

I guess with regular dating sites getting soooo full, it should be no surprise that there are such niche dating sites popping up. And why not? After all, with hundreds of thousands of singles to choose from on some sites, it would be pretty tough to narrow it down for tattoo dating only - now tattoo lovers don’t have to struggle with that. They can join tattoolovers.com, set up a profile and start browsing other profiles to find that special someone with special body art ;)

A Weekend On My Own?

Alpine Village Family September 25th, 2007

YES PLEASE :D  Hubby is taking the kids to the cottage this weekend - I’m staying here though.  I’m pretty excited about the time alone.  I’ll get lots of work projects done that have been bugging me, and also watch some chick-flicks and treat myself to at least one sleep in morning.  All in all, all good ;)

Dating For Seniors

Alpine Village Family September 25th, 2007

Saturday night I watched the movie “Because I Said So”. I had heard not-so-great things about it but I really liked it a lot :) It got me thinking too - about dating mostly. It’s tough enough slugging trying to find someone special when we are young and the majority of us are looking - but imagine how tough it would be for seniors.

There’s not really the standard bar scene for them, and it’d be tough to tell who is looking to find someone and who isn’t. Well, as with everything there is a demand for, there is now a supplier - of help that is, for senior singles who want to date :) So there you go, an online senior dating site for setting up and reviewing other seniors’ profiles - pretty cool eh?

Good Marketing = Good Business

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

Found an interesting post today called Top 10 Ways to Boost Direct Marketing Results. Although I don’t do B2B Telemarketing - they refer to it a bit - I do find a lot of their suggestions to ring true for my business as well.
Certainly there is always a need for business lead generation and nurturing. I have lists of people that I help with different things via email. I need leads to get my lists as big as possible. The bigger the list is, the better, because I need as many people as possible to visit my webpages where the info. is. The more people who visit the pages, the more likely my Adsense ads. will get clicked on and therefore, the more money I will make.

They describe, among other things, the importance of personalizing correspondence, building a relationship and offering a solution to the customer’s problem. Some things to think on further…

AFV - The Giggles!!

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

Well, it’s a tradition of sorts at our house:  America’s Funniest Home Videos every Sunday night :)  The kids are still under the weather, in fact Jen is a bit of a cuddly/whiny/mess, more so than Matt, and HE has the fever - go figure ;)

Anyway, it’s a fun time after dinner and bath-time when we all crowd onto the couch and have a giggle-fest.  It’s a nice way to start our week!  Any traditions at your house?

Poor Credit? Me? What?

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

Well, I called PC Financial and asked for a very low amount of overdraft protection. They asked me a bunch of questions, put me on hold for a while and then said “no”.

I was astounded. I really thought I’d be fine since I always pay things on time etc. but apparently this isn’t all they take into account. Upon having a credit review done I’ve been told that I have too many credit cards. Go figure. Some of the credit cards I haven’t used in years but because I still have access to them (I never actually “closed” the accounts), I have access to too much credit. Interesting eh?

There I was thinking that I’d need a company like CreditNet.com to help me repair my credit but it seems I just need to preen back on the cards LOL!! I may still go check out their resources for credit repair etc. (they have live chat too ;) ) but I think I’m on the right track - phew!

Rubber Checks

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

I really want to write “cheques” but for my US readers, and most of you are ;), I wrote “checks”.

Aaaaaanyway, I have to vent a bit. I have a President’s Choice bank account. I started it because I could earn free groceries - a nice bonus :) - each time I used my debit card there. They advertised that it was “free banking” meaning that there are no fees. I’d say that was true…

…until I bounced a check . Now don’t misunderstand, I’m a good girl. I pay my bills on time and most of the time I know how much money I have in my account. Unfortunately though, I have the memory of a gnat and THIS time, I totally forgot about the check. It had been almost two months since I wrote it. I really thought it had gone through weeks ago - it hadn’t.

So, when I went to make a deposit, imagine my surprise when my balance was off by $35 dollars. I went home to check online and low and behold I had bounced that old check and my PCFinancial bank was lovingly charging me $35 dollars for it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently I need some overdraft protection to compensate for my pitiful memory ;)

Commercials and Infomercials

Alpine Village Family September 23rd, 2007

Those of us with websites, maybe you have one or seven too, dream of traffic; big, big, bunches of traffic that direct response TV could bring  :D

I would LOVE to have a full service television advertising agency like Hawthorne Direct produce a commercial for Happy Mommy News. I could ask them to show the audience all about our free resources and how they can benefit moms. I mean really, TV can be pretty targeted advertising. I could show the ads during “A Baby Story” and/or “The Mom Show” and just sit and wait for the traffic on my site :)
