Most of us as parents are trying to limit the amount of time our kids spend in front of the tube. We know that when a child spends too much time watching, they’re not DOing… they’re not exercising, reading, interacting with family, communicating, etc.
The challenge sometimes is to know what to do when the TV goes off. Here are some easy ideas that you can implement into your day instead of watching TV. I promise none of them require saving dryer lint or toilet paper rolls!

If you want to save money on children’s clothing, you have several options. For instance, you could scour thrift shops and consignment stores, buy on eBay, or accept hand me downs.
Another option would be searching online for good deals and clearance sales. To save yourself time, try a site like Picadil, for name brand children’s clothing at bargain prices. They even have a newsletter that keeps you updated with the latest bargains. Sure beats the mall experience with little ones in tow!

When my youngest was a wee one, I remember getting to the point where I couldn’t quite figure out how to entertain him. He was too old to just hang out in a sling watching me putter around the house, but not quite old enough to really play independently very much.
Now there are so many cool sites with educational toys and activities for kids filled with ideas for parents. This one even has a mailing list where you can receive activities for fun things to do with young kids straight to your inbox.

When my son was 6 years old he was didn’t have a huge interest in reading. I spent a lot of time reading to him aloud since he is homeschooled, but I figured out that a lot of what I was reading just didn’t suit his interests… and I wasn’t excited about reading about soccer!
I discovered the Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket quite by accident. My son fell in love with the story line and before I knew it we had read most of the series (author Daniel Handler just finished the final book in the series), and he was excited about reading. Fast forward 2 years and the kid has his nose in a book for at least an hour or two a day. This, as the saying goes, is a good thing.
