Free breastfeeding help

Alpine Village Family November 29th, 2006

I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my sister when I was pregnant with my first child (she on the other hand had just downloaded her fourth). She asked me if I was planning on breastfeeding the baby and I said yes. She told me that things would be challenging for the first few weeks but that if I could hang in there, it would be smooth sailing from that point.

I remember thinking: “What’s so difficult about it? You just put the baby to your breast and they drink?”

Oh how I laugh at that now! Of course, I know now that Mommies need the right information and support to breastfeed their babies. Here are a couple of resources:

The Happy Breastfeeder is a free newsletter for Moms who want to nurse their babies for a year. And don’t you dare wear an ugly old nursing bra! Treat yourself to a pretty nursing bra and browse the information on this site too.

A girl’s gotta have gadgets

Alpine Village Family November 28th, 2006

There are so many cool products out there that can solve a problem in your daily life or save you a little time, but who has time to go out and find them all?

Mom Gadgets to the rescue! Mom Gadgets is a blog where several moms get together and share neat products they use every day. For instance, Lynette used her instant hot water heater to sanitize her baby’s pacifier or warm bottles. Plus Mommy can make a cup of hot tea in a minute to sit down and relax with.
How cool is that?

Eat together, save your family

Alpine Village Family November 27th, 2006

Just the other day I was reading an article about the importance of families eating together. Did you know that long term studies have shown that familes who eat dinner together at least 3 times a week are much happier and more successful than families who don’t?

There is even a connection between teens, drug abuse and early sexual activity and the number of times the family sits down to supper. Who knew that such a simple activity could have such profound benefits? One article shares some cool stats on this.
Here is a moving video that illustrates some of this research. Turn your speakers on and get ready to grab your cookbook! ===> Dinner video

When you have a Wonder Woman in the house

Alpine Village Family November 26th, 2006

I stumbled on this website quite by accident and I had to share it.  I didn’t know that you could still get Wonder Woman undies

I immediately pictured myself wearing these under my clothes when facing a tough day.  I’d feel like a secret super hero! LOL!

Of course, it’s the kids who will probably want them :)

Mom stuck at home and need to talk?

Alpine Village Family November 25th, 2006

Ok, there’s no replacement for getting out of the house and meeting up with a friend. Keeping up adult friendships is essential for the stay at home Mom set. It helps us be more well rounded people and keeps us sane too. ;)

But sometimes it’s a challenge what with conflicting schedules, sick toddlers and such. Internet message forums can be a neat way to make friends and find support for the day to day grind of parenting, and sometimes these relationships even go offline for a deeper connection.

Here’s one fun message board: Moms Talk Forum

They’re a relaxed, non judgmental group of Mommies who chat about all kinds of stuff.. so come on in, the water’s fine. :)
